POETRY

First Spoon
by Odarka Stockert

From this spoon forward
you run away
into forests of utensils and foods.
Sandwiches, Popsicles
and Vanilla Cremes.
Clouds of rice pudding
soften your fall.
Starting with this spoon
you leave my breast
to ride your bike and run
alone.
